Today is Louis Riel Day here in Manitoba, and it's the first time ever that we're celebrating this holiday. This calendar day has nothing to do with Louis Riel, really. It's a mid-February holiday that both Alberta and Saskatchewan observe, so Manitoba followed suit. Except we named ours after a controversial figure in history, albeit a true Canadian hero. This new holiday falls right in the middle of the gorgeous Festival du Voyageur. Yeah, in Canada, we have strange holidays. Oh well. Have fun!
